Is Atlanta About To Witness The DeMarre Carroll Game?

I can’t believe DeMarre Carroll is a game time decision for Game 2 against the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight.  There is no way that he should have been able to participate in this morning’s shootaround.  He shouldn’t be able to walk without assistance.  Nothing is keeping the Junkyard Dog out of Game 2.  Nothing.  Is Atlanta about to witness the DeMarre Carroll Game?

More from Atlanta Hawks

Though he walked slowly off the court after this morning’s practice, I can tell that Carroll will play tonight.  Is he going to play 40 minutes?  No way!  You could have ACL’s made out of adamantium and it would still be very difficult to guard Playoff LeBron James all night.  But DeMarre Carroll will do the impossible and play in Game 2 tonight.  We all can feel it.

Philips Arena, this is your time to shine.  This could be our version of the Michael Jordan Flu Game or Curt Schilling Bloody Sock Game or who knows?  Maybe it’s our Willis Reed Game?  In a historic series for our Atlanta Hawks, why can’t we be a part of something truly miraculous?  I mean, we have nothing to lose.  The world says we don’t belong on this stage.  Well, we’re here and our Hawks aren’t going down without a fight.

The best part of this could-be scenario is that all DeMarre has to do is take the court just once and Atlanta takes all the momentum in Game 2.  If he makes a basket or pickpockets a Cleveland wing, the Highlight Factory will hit 200 decibels and the Seattle Seahawks will have to try and break OUR noise record in the fall.  Birds of feather flock together, am I right?  There’s no way that the rest of the Atlanta Hawks roster won’t be energized and amped that their vocal and defensive leader is on the floor after what looked like a certain ACL tear just two nights ago.

Everything happens for a reason.  The Junkyard Dog lives to fight another day for his Atlanta Hawks.  When Kent Bazemore and Paul Millsap are struggling to cover LeBron James, all they have to do is look over to the Hawks bench for inspiration and see that their teammate is not in street clothes.  He’s waiting on the bench for Coach Bud to call his number.  Kent and Paul are going to need some lift defensively tonight, y’all, and we’re going to give it to them.  The last time the City of Atlanta went through this type of knee injury, Kerri Strug carried the Women’s US Gymnastics Team to Gold in 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta.  That was the last time Atlanta had a champion.  Coincidence?

DeMarre Carroll has carried the weight of the world on his shoulders for the Hawks since the All-Star break.  Tonight, the world outside of Cleveland, Ohio carries you.  You can do this.  We still believe!  Let’s Go Hawks!
