QB 1987-1993. Oregon. Chris Miller. 5. player. 44.

Chris Miller often gets overlooked a one of the greatest Atlanta Falcons passers.  Miller was the 13th overall selection made in the 1987 NFL Draft out of the University of Oregon.  Miller became the Falcons full-time starting quarterback in 1988.

Though he only had one winning season under center for the Atlanta Falcons, the 9-5 1991 Season, Chris Miller still had a strong seven seasons as the team’s franchise quarterback.  Miller ranks 3rd in career passing yards for the Falcons with 14,066 over seven seasons.  Chris threw over 3,000 yards twice for Atlanta in an era of professional football so reliant on the running game.

His 87 career touchdown passes have him tied for third on the Falcons all-time list.  His split between TD’s and INT’s is decent given the era in which he played (87 TD’s to 72 INT’s).  But perhaps it’s his career record while with the Atlanta Falcons (23-43) or his sub-par completion percentage (54.0%) that keeps him from being remembered as a great Falcons quarterback.

When then HC Jerry Glanville decided to go back to black with their uniforms in 1991, it was Chris Miller who threw all those passes to André “Bad Moon” Rison as Atlanta had one of the league’s most feared aerial attacks that season.  Miller threw for 3,103 yards and 26 touchdowns en route to a 9-5 playoff appearance season and his lone Pro Bowl selection.

You can all you want about Miller’s ability to win ball games as the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, but could he throw the football.  Even 23 years after his last game for the Falcons, you can still find his name in the Top 5 in most franchise career passing statistics.  Therefore, Chris Miller is the fifth best quarterback to ever play for the Atlanta Falcons.
