The Atlanta Hawks played their second game in the Las Vegas Summer League on Sunday, defeating the Golden State Warriors 71-70.

Glenn Robinson III, a late addition to the Hawks roster, hit one of his two free throws with 25 seconds remaining on the clock to give the Hawks a lead they would not relinquish. The Warriors’ LaDontae Henton threw up a three-pointer from the baseline at the buzzer that spun out, giving the Atlanta Hawks their first victory of the Summer League.

The Atlanta Hawks Stephen Holt and Glenn Robinson led the way with 13 points apiece on Sunday. While Holt led the Atlanta Hawks in points scored, he did not record a single assist. Robinson shot 4-9 from the field with 0 three-point field goals attempted.

Lamar Patterson led the Atlanta Hawks Summer League team in scoring with 16 points in Friday’s loss to the Denver, but failed to score a point in Sunday’s game in 22 minutes of play. Brandon Ashley, who also played well in Friday’s game, only scored 4 points in 18 minutes on the court.

The two Atlanta Hawks’ rotation players, Mike Muscala and Walter Tavares, looked solid, though not spectacular against Golden State. Mike Muscala scored 7 points in 27 minutes, shooting 2-5 from the field. Edy Tavares showed promise once again and displayed his potential on Sunday, scoring 6 points in 20 minutes to go along with 5 blocks and 6 rebounds. It has become more clear the past couple of games that Tavares possesses the talent to become a legitimate big man in the league — but requires more work on his offensive game. Tavares showcased a nice touch on Sunday, which makes me excited to see how he will play against better competition during the regular season.

Mike Muscala’s impact will not show up on the scoreboard, but he brings a veteran savvy to summer squad, all while developing his leadership skills. The tools he develops in the Summer League will go a long way to helping him secure a regular spot in Head Coach Mike Budenholzer’s rotation this coming season.

All in all, the players that fans and Atlanta Hawks player development evaluators are watching closely, Muscala and Tavares, have performed well thus far in the Summer League. Other players such as Lamar Patterson and Brandon Ashley must consistently play well from here on out to have a shot at the Atlanta Hawks’ 15th roster spot.

The Atlanta Hawks Summer League team continues play tonight in the desert against the D-League All-Stars. Stay tuned for updates on the Atlanta Hawks as the 2015-2016 season approaches.
