The Atlanta Hawks Summer League team defeated the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday, advancing to the Las Vegas Summer League’s Final Four.

The competition between Hawks swingmen on the summer league squad continues as Lamar Patterson, Terran Petteway, Brandon Ashley and Glenn Robinson III all scored in double figures on Saturday. Glenn Robinson III led the team in scoring with 23 points on 9-12 shooting, going 3-4 from beyond the arc. Saturday was a bounce back game for Robinson, as he only shot 2-10 from the field in Thursday’s game against Emmanuel Mudiay and the Denver Nuggets.

Lamar Patterson scored 16 points in 27 minutes as a member of the starting lineup, going 3-7 from the field. The Atlanta Hawks were a +17 when he was on the court. Former Nebraska guard Terran Petteway played a team high 32 minutes, scoring 19 points on 8-11 shooting, along with securing 6 rebounds. Petteway also went 3-6 from behind the three-point line, making 8 consecutive shots to begin the contest.

Brandon Ashley scored 16 points in 22 minutes of play on Saturday as well, notching a second consecutive game of double figure scoring. Guard Stephen Holt added 5 points in 28 minutes played as a starter.

Both Mike Muscala and Walter Tavares did not have stellar offensive numbers against the Mavericks, only scoring 6 points a piece. Muscala struggled with his shot throughout Saturday’s game, shooting 1-9 from the field in almost 30 minutes. Tavares’s offensive game has improved significantly during the Las Vegas Summer League, and his performance on Saturday showed his progress. Edy Tavares went 3-4 from the field to go along with 5 rebounds. Muscala’s shooting isn’t a concern for the Atlanta Hawks, as every player has an off night.

After going only 1-2 before the Summer League tournament commenced, the Atlanta Hawks have developed team chemistry under coach Kenny Atkinson. Patterson, Robinson, Petteway and Ashley have all performed very well this month on the Hawks’ summer squad, and continue to compete for the 15th and last spot on the roster, pending an invitation to the Hawks’ training camp in October. At this juncture, Glenn Robinson III is the favorite, as his athleticism is superior to his competitors.

It is encouraging to see the Atlanta Hawks gel so well during the LVSL. The talent on the team can benefit the Hawks going into the season, as they are actively looking to add more depth on the wing.

After their victory on Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks, the Atlanta Hawks meet Coach Becky Hammon and the San Antonio Spurs in Sunday’s semifinal of the Las Vegas Summer League, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 PM.
