John Theus came to Athens after being a Top 25 Recruit in the High School Class of 2012.  Theus choose the Georgia Bulldogs over the Florida Gators in what was a highly contested recruiting battle as Theus grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, home of the annual Georgia-Florida game.

Mark Richt had confidence in John to give him playing time right away.  Initially he started out as a right tackle, only having to move to the left to protect Aaron Murray’s blind side as a true sophomore in 2013.

More from ATL All Day

After a baptism by fire 2013 campaign and a much improved season in 2014, John Theus could have his best season for the Red and Black as a true senior this fall.  Theus was one of three upperclassmen that Head Coach Mark Richt brought with him to SEC Media Days in Hoover, Alabama earlier this summer.  At Media Days, it was obvious that John Theus is assuming the vocal leader role on the UGA offensive line after former center David Andrews graduated and now plays for the NFL’s New England Patriots.

John Theus’ in-game experience over the last three seasons gives me plenty of optimism to believe that he will have an All-SEC caliber season for the Georgia Bulldogs.  How John Theus protects the blind side will go a long way in helping the new starting quarterback have a successful first-season leading the Dawgs under center.
