Atlanta Braves Walkoff On Snakes 2-1 in Miller’s Gem
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Braves take two of three from the Arizona Diamondbacks at home Sunday afternoon thanks to a walkoff solo shot off the bat of Cameron Maybin, giving the Atlanta Braves a 2-1 victory over the Snakes.

Though Cameron Maybin delivered the knockout blow to Arizona in the top of the 10th inning, it was Shelby Miller‘s strong seven innings that gave the Braves a chance today. Miller no-hit the Diamondbacks through seven innings today. He struck out 10 Snakes while walking 4 in his dominating no decision.

While all of Braves Country wanted Shelby Miller to get the win today, it ultimately went to David Aardsma who pitched a very strong top of the tenth, striking out the side. Miller’s second near no-hit bid went into the eighth inning before the Diamondbacks light-hitting shortstop Nick Ahmed blooped a single just over Jace Peterson in shallow right-centerfield. Shelby then allowed a pinch-hit single to Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the next at-bat before Fredi Gonzalez had to pull him from the game.
With two runners on and nobody out in the top of the eighth, Ahmed was able to tie the game up at 1 by scoring on a ground out off Ender Inciarte‘s bat. So again, Shelby Miller goes winless in a start, but in no way can you blame him as his performance today was electric.
Offensively the Atlanta Braves scored their two runs on nine hits today, with Cameron Maybin, Andrelton Simmons, and Jace Peterson each recording two hits apiece. Atlanta was able to get on base against Arizona’s starter Rubby De La Rose (7 hits and 4 walks), but could only get one run across in his seven innings of work. The Braves stranded nine runners this afternoon.
This was a great team win for the Atlanta Braves as nearly no-hitting a very good offensive team like Arizona is not easy to do. Taking two of three before heading west to face the San Diego Padres at Petco Park should give this Atlanta club a lot of confidence heading into the week.

Freddie Freeman expects to rejoin the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday before the club heads to the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field to face the scorching lava hot Chicago Cubs. Though it will be two consecutive late nights for Braves Country back here in Southeast, the San Diego Padres do have many familiar faces on their roster. In Atlanta’s lone trip to San Diego, the Braves look to continue their winning ways against Craig Kimbrel and the Upton Brothers. Great win today, Go Braves!
