If NBA realignment is going to happen under Commissioner Adam Silver’s watch to restore balance to the Conferences, or drop them all together, I would welcome the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Pelicans and bid the Washington Wizards adieu to form the new and improved Southeast Division.

It’s really a shame that the Hawks and Grizzlies only play twice a year, given that they play in neighboring states.  My favorite NBA player not on the Atlanta Hawks is Grizzlies C Marc Gasol.  I love what HC Dave Joerger is doing with the Grit N’ Grind Grizzlies.  Their physicality in the NBA is the most intimidating in the league.  They place with the strength of the Bad Boy Pistons but the class of the San Antonio Spurs.

One of my favorite games last year was the lone game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Memphis Grizzlies at the Highlight Factory.  Topping Memphis thanks to a clutch Kyle Korver drained three-pointer might have been my favorite moment of the regular season.

I see Memphis as a very challenging opponent inside for the Atlanta big men.  Gasol and PF Zach Randolph‘s inside dominance forces Paul Millsap and Al Horford to find new and creative ways to score.  Putting up points in the low post against Memphis is darn near impossible.

Memphis won’t make it to Philips Arena until March 12th, but I’ve got this game circled on my calendar because I want to see if Coach Bud’s Atlanta Hawks have enough strength and grit to play with the Grit N’ Grind Grizzlies on the inside.
