Adam Gotsis Named All-ACC by ESPN

ESPN.com released their preseason player rankings on Monday, outlining the players they believe will be honored with All-Conference honors by their league this coming season.

Two members of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were fortunate enough to receive All-ACC Honors from the Worldwide Leader in Sports: Senior Defensive Tackle Adam Gotsis and Red-Shirt Senior Guard Ryan Trey Braun. It is somewhat disappointing that ESPN only recognized two players from the 2014 Coastal Division Champions, considering how successful the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were last season.

Adam Gotsis, a three-year player for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets from Australia, has made a name for himself on Tech’s defensive line. A three-year starter, Gotsis has played in every game throughout this freshman, sophomore, and junior season, earning a reputation for not only being an explosive defensive lineman, but a reliable and healthy player.

During the 2014 season, Adam Gotsis impressed, notching 36 tackles, 3 sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 1 blocked field and a blocked extra point attempt against UGA. Gotsis will look to build upon his successful 2014 campaign, as ESPN.com currently ranks him as the 9th best Defensive Tackle for the 2016 NFL Draft.

Following the loss of starters on the defensive end, it is imperative that Adam Gotsis not only continues his good play, but steps up to be a leader on the defensive end. Paul Johnson’s gameplan is predicated on controlling the clock, as the triple option offense does not afford the Jackets many opportunities for quick scores. Adam Gotsis and returning defensive tackle Jabari Hunt-Days must control the line of scrimmage and step up as leaders on the defensive end.

Red-Shirt Senior Guard Trey Braun also received All-ACC honors from ESPN on Monday, showcasing the strength of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket’s offensive line. Braun’s recognition demonstrates the strength of the Tech offense in the coming season. The Ramblin’ Wreck was ranked 16th in the country in Sunday’s initial College Football AP Poll.

Quarterback Justin Thomas just missed preseason All-ACC recognition from ESPN, as Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson bested the Tech qb for honors. If Watson is unable to remain healthy, and Justin Thomas can pick up where he left off during the 2014 season, he might find himself not only earning All-ACC honors at the end of 2015, but also the ACC Player of the Year Award.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets begin their 2015 campaign against the SWAC Champion Alcorn State Braves in Week 1 at Bobby Dodd Stadium. For continued updates on Tech leading up to the season, keep it here at ATL All Day.
