Georgia Bulldogs Face Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville

The Georgia Bulldogs will play their first SEC game of 2015 when the Dawgs travel to the Music City to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville this afternoon.

The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off a 51-14 beatdown of the ULM Warhawks in Week 1 of the 2015 Season.  UGA ran the ball at will against their Sun Belt opponent, while meticulously moving the ball through the air in the passing game.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Georgia Bulldogs routinely got after the quarterback and hit hard up near the line of scrimmage, both on runs and in press coverage.  CB Aaron Davis had the lone turnover of the UGA-ULM game with his impressive man coverage interception in the first half.

Vanderbilt looked better on defense against a strong offensive team like the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, allowing only 14 points at home.  The problem for Vandy was that the offense let them down thanks to costly turnovers and inefficiencies in the red zone.  Vanderbilt lost their home opener to WKU 14-12.

Though many view the Georgia Bulldogs as the favorite to come out of the SEC East this season and Vanderbilt to finish in seventh, UGA HC Mark Richt will have his Georgia Bulldogs team chomping at the bit to atone for some bad games against the ‘Dores in Nashville.

UGA did not beat Vandy in Nashville last time in the infamous Ramik Wilson Targeting Game in 2013.  Since finishing #24 overall in 2013, Vandy has fallen on hard times after former HC James Franklin left the Music City for a more lucrative job in Happy Valley with the Penn State Nittany Lions.  Could you blame the Pennsylvania native?  Penn State is one of a handful of job offers you don’t say no to in college football.

Georgia enters the game as a 17-point road favorite over Vanderbilt.  Many college football fans expect UGA to win this game in the first half.  However, don’t expect Mark Richt to take for granted a date with an SEC foe.  The Georgia Bulldogs lost in Vanderbilt in 2013 and won a nail biter in Nashville in 2011.

  • While UGA has looked dominant over VU at home in recent years, beating an annual opponent on the road to start SEC play sounds like a great plan for the Georgia Bulldogs.  Expect Georgia to control the pace of the game with their strong stable of tailbacks and a new quarterback that will likely game manage.  Also looked for UGA to force turnovers by disrupting the passer early and often with their dynamic front seven.

If Georgia can keep the chains moving by means of their rushing attack, I think the Bulldogs have this game in the bag.  However, if UGA turns the ball and goes three and out a bunch, expect this game to stay too close for comfort.  Since I can’t envision the Vandy Defense shutting down Nick Chubb and Company this afternoon, Georgia rolls over Vanderbilt by at least three scores in this one.

Your Georgia Bulldogs Week 2 matchup with the Vanderbilt Commodores will begin at 3:30 PM ET on CBS.  This is great to have our first Conference Game on a major television network like CBS.  Here’s to winning a statement game and climbing up the rankings.  Go Dawgs!
