Atlanta Falcons: 5 Players to Watch vs. Eagles
By John Buhler
When you have a Top 5 kicker on your team, your team has confidence to come away with points on just about every offensive possession. Matt Bryant became that last season with his near Pro Bowl 2014 Season. It started off with a bang as the other Matty Ice drilled a 50+ yard field goal to beat the arch nemesis New Orleans Saints as time expired in Week 1 last season.
Inside of 50 yards, Bryant did not miss a field goal or an extra point last year. He might be in his 40’s, but he’s playing his best football of his career. His mental preparation is reminiscent to former Falcons Legend K Morten Andersen, the guy responsible for sending the Dirty Birds to their only Super Bowl to date back in 1998.
Being that this game is at home for the Atlanta Falcons, I have confidence in Matt Bryant to make just about anything 55 yards or closer. Outside of maybe a few kickers in the league, most teams can’t confidently make that claim about their placekicker.
Since this game has a spread of 1-point, look for it to come down to which team has the better kicking game. I feel this heavily favors Matt Bryant and the Atlanta Falcons. Should the game come down to a 45 yard attempt inside of 5 seconds in the 4th Quarter, I have all the faith in the world that Matt Bryant will carry the Atlanta Falcons to victory with his accurate leg from long distance.
