Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets: Hardest Remaining Schedule in Nation

facebooktwitterreddit

The 14th ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have a good start to their season through the first two weeks of the College Football Season.

The Jackets won their first two games against Alcorn State and Tulane by an aggregate score of 134-16 with relative ease. Beginning on Saturday, that is all about to change. As the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets roll into South Bend, Indiana to take on the 10th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, they will begin the toughest remaining schedule of any school in the FBS, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI).

As aforementioned, the 14th ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will begin this difficult stretch against #10 Notre Dame this coming Saturday, and will face 6 other teams in the top 31 of ESPN’s Football Power Index: #31 North Carolina on October 3rd, #18 Clemson on October 10th, #16 Florida State on October 24th, #29 Virginia Tech on November 12th, #25 Miami on November 21st and #5 Georgia on November 28.

Not included is a rising Duke program, who the Jackets play on the road on September 26th. Both the Clemson and Miami games will be played on the road, further increasing the difficulty for the Jackets going forward this season.

While the schedule is certainly daunting for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, it is not a death sentence. The Jackets beat the odds last season, winning 11 games en route to a Coastal Division championship, and appearance in the ACC Championship game, and a victory against a formerly ranked #1 team in Mississippi State in the Orange Bowl.

The strength of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets schedule will only serve to prove their naysayers wrong if they are able to survive this stretch. Also, it creates an excellent resume for the Jackets in the event that they are in contention for a playoff spot or a berth to a New Year’s Six bowl game.

Head Coach Paul Johnson knows the challenge ahead for his team, and will no doubt prepare them for the trials ahead. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have the personnel both on the field and on the coaching staff to prepare for the rest of the season.

As a Georgia Tech fan, I’m excited at the prospect of the resume that Tech can build up over the course of the season. If successful, it will validate their play in the eyes of the country, who for so long has valued playing in a conference like the SEC more than other factors. The Jackets have let down fans in years past; but perhaps this season, this team is different.
