Greyson Lambert: Will He Throw For 300 Yards Again?

facebooktwitterreddit

Greyson Lambert had the best game of his collegiate career against South Carolina on Saturday, completing 24 of 25 passes for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns, earning a QBR of 97.8. Will the new UGA starting QB top the 300 yard threshold in another game in 2015?

Greyson Lambert solidified his starting spot at quarterback with the Georgia Bulldogs in his outstanding individual performance over the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday. Lambert came to UGA as a graduate transfer from the University of Virginia late this summer. He surprised most in Dawg Nation to win the starting job, despite only a month’s worth of practices in OC Brian Schottenheimer’s system.

After a decent game against ULM at home in Week 1, but a shaky performance against Vanderbilt in Week 2, many had concerns if Schottenheimer and HC Mark Richt picked the right starting quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs in 2015. Lambert then silenced all doubters with a record-setting game against USC on Saturday.

Greyson Lambert broke the University of Georgia record for most consecutive completions (20) held by former OC Mike Bobo. Lambert also shattered an NCAA record for highest completion percentage in a game with over 20 passing attempts. The record now stands at a staggering 96%.

While I do think that Greyson Lambert will have many more great games for the Georgia Bulldogs this season, will he throw for more than 300 yards in another game for UGA this fall? Frankly, will he ever have to?

I don’t feel that the UGA offense needs Greyson Lambert to eclipse 300 yards passing weekly for the Dawgs offense to win ball games. Lambert has a healthy bevy of tailbacks who can run on anybody in the country.

Even with a great game like he had against USC, it shouldn’t mean that Lambert should throw the football more often than he hands the ball off to Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Keith Marshall. UGA should still have a 60-40 run-pass split offensively.

  • More importantly than yardage, Lambert has to not turn the ball over through the air, something he struggled with mightily at UVA. I’d rather have Greyson Lambert’s completion percentage and touchdown to interception ratio stay high than to see him trying to throw for a ton of yards this fall. You have to keep the running game going at all costs if you’re the Georgia QB.

However, I do think that in the right circumstances where the UGA offense is grooving against an inexperienced secondary, I could see Greyson Lambert top 300 yards again in a game this season.

Don’t expect it to happen every week, but I think that Lambert will throw for over 300 yards two more times this season, both against inferior Power 5 defenses. If Greyson Lambert can play anywhere near as well as he did against USC on Saturday, then UGA seems like one of the toughest teams to beat at home in the country. Go Dawgs.
