Nick Chubb: Will He Set Rushing Record Vs. Alabama?
By John Buhler
Nick Chubb tied Herschel Walker‘s record of consecutive 100 yard rushing games at 12 in Week 4. Will he set the record against Alabama in Week 5 Saturday?
Every time Nick Chubb has started a game at tailback for the Georgia Bulldogs, he has rushed for over 100 yards on the ground. Entering his 13th game as the lead running back for the Dawgs, Chubb will likely face his toughest challenger to date in the Alabama Crimson Tide.

How should UGA fans handle the possibility that Nick Chubb could break his tie with Herschel Walker for consecutive 100 yard rushing games on Saturday?

Dawg Nation needs to assume that Chubb will break the century mark yet again if the Georgia Bulldogs want to knock off the Tide at home next Saturday. He’s not the exclusive RB option for HC Mark Richt on offense, as UGA will certainly hand the football off to Sony Michel and Keith Marshall in this high-profile SEC Contest.
However, that shouldn’t factor in Chubb’s performance as he usually only needs about 12 to 15 carries to eclipse 100 yards on the ground in a game. The way to prevent Chubb from hitting the century mark would be to stack the tackle box with 9 or 10 guys on every play. That also assumes that the linebackers and secondary can catch him on the edge.
While that would work normally against most backs, don’t expect Alabama to routinely stack the box against UGA in this one. The reasons for that are fellow RB Sony Michel can make plays from anywhere on the gridiron, potentially in the slot with Chubb in the backfield, and that starting QB Greyson Lambert has only thrown two incompletions in the last two games for the Bulldogs.

It will be interesting as the Crimson Tide are the fourth best run defense in the NCAA, allowing only 56.8 yards per game on the ground and just two rushing touchdowns. However, the Tide have not played Georgia yet, a team that can eviscerate its opponent on the ground.
Heading into the season, I would have been skeptical for Nick Chubb to rush for over 100 yards against a team like Alabama. However, with the offensive line looking like a Top 5 unit in the country, Sony Michel being more than a complement in the UGA backfield, and Greyson Lambert’s emergence as a legitimate SEC passer, I could see the Tide having too much on their plate defensively to keep Nick Chubb under 100 yards in this game.
