Mike Scott remained silent following the incident, as did the Atlanta Hawks, which made many people believe that the Hawks’ former second round draft pick from the University of Virginia may be cut from the roster. Following the Atlanta Hawks media day on Monday and their first day of training camp today at the University of Georgia, Mike Scott has finally broke his silence to speak to the media.

Speaking to reporters during Media Day, Mike Scott stated that while it has been an eventful summer, he has found a “sanctuary” on the basketball court, away from all the distractions that have emerged as a product of his arrest. Mike Scott declared that because of his arrest, he put the organization in a bad position:

"“I don’t like to make other people look bad, I don’t like to embarrass people. I don’t want to feel embarrassed. I thought it made us look bad a little bit. I take full responsibility for that. Moving on.”"

It is good to hear that Scott has taken responsibility for his actions and is making an effort to move on and rectify the situation. The Atlanta Hawks organization has had its fair share of bad publicity over the past year, and has to work hard to improve their image in the eyes of the public.

Mike Scott has been an important rotational piece for the Atlanta Hawks for the past 2 seasons — though his numbers regressed last year, perhaps due to a nagging back injury. Scott mentioned that he and Head Coach Mike Budenholzer have spoken multiple times following the incident, and said that his teammates and the rest of the organization will continue to support him.

As an important piece on the Atlanta Hawks depth chart, it is important that Mike Scott has the support of the team around him. Of course, it is uncertain how long he may be in a Hawks uniform this season once the independent drug test results emerge and his court date is set. At the very least, it seems that Mike Scott is now in the right frame of mind entering the 2015-2016 season.
