Georgia Bulldogs Fall to Alabama, 38-10

The Georgia Bulldogs don’t get it done versus the Alabama Crimson Tide, and lose 38-10 in Week 5. Georgia is now 4-1 (2-1) on the season. They look ahead to their Week 6 matchup in Knoxville with the Tennessee Volunteers.

Look, I don’t understand why the Georgia Bulldogs could not get up for this game. This was an opportunity to prove to the Committee that the Georgia Bulldogs belong in the 2nd Annual College Football Playoff. All eyes were on this game, and UGA did not show up. Yes, Alabama had their backs against the wall in this game, but a 28 pt loss at home is not acceptable for UGA.

Do the Georgia Bulldogs control their own destiny from here on out? Yes, they do, but losing at home to Bama isn’t ideal in this situation. Georgia now will have to win all of their road games to stay in contention for the SEC East Crown.

While Alabama may have put up 38 points on the Dawgs’ defense, the Tide have a much more difficult path to Atlanta than the Dawgs do. Bama would need to beat LSU, have Ole Miss lose a game, and Texas A&M drop a game as well. The Georgia Bulldogs only need to beat Tennessee on the road, Missouri at home, and Florida at a neutral site in Jacksonville.

Though the game would not stand as a victory for Georgia, sophomore sensation RB Nick Chubb conquered his tie with Herschel Walker’s record for 13 consecutive 100 yard rushing yards with that 83-yard scamper for a touchdown. Chubb totaled 20 carries for 146 yards and 1 touchdown.

However, QB Greyson Lambert did not thrive at home like he had done in the previous two weeks. Lambert was nowhere near as accurate in this game, completing 10 of 24 passes for 86 yards and 1 interception. He outperformed his backup Brice Ramse,y who went 1 for 6 with two interceptions and one pick six. Though Lambert struggled in this game, he still is the starting quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Georgia, while they control their own destiny, needs to understand that they are no longer a darling in the College Football Playoff picture. Could they win in Atlanta? Sure, but they will need to elevate their game against the SEC West Champion in late December. The Georgia Bulldogs are a good team, but have yet to prove that they are a great team in 2015. How they handle the rest of their SEC slate will decide if they can contend for a Playoff Berth.
