Atlanta Braves Finish Season By Winning Doubleheader
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Braves take both games in the doubleheader on the final day of the season over the St. Louis Cardinals, winning Game 2, 2-0. The was the first time that the Atlanta Braves completed a shutout sweep of the Cardinals.
Matt Wisler was sensational in this game. He almost went the distance in this game, but could not retire the final batter. Wisler went 8.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing four hits, one walk, while striking out three. Edwin Jackson came into strike out Randal Grichuk to end the season with runners on first and third.

In the second game today, Atlanta had 2 runs on their 11 hits. Michael Bourn led the way this afternoon with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Pedro Ciriaco and Ryan Lavarnway each had a pair of hits in this game. Adonis Garcia had the other RBI.
Though Atlanta was nearly a 100 loss team this year, they looked great in their final series of the regular season against a St. Louis Cardinals team that won 100 games in 2015. The Braves haven’t looked great against the Cardinals in recent years, so this was a nice consolation prize to an otherwise lousy season for our Atlanta Braves.

I’m thankful that the young pitchers performed well down the stretch this season. Atlanta rebounded in September/October after the worst August in recent Braves history. Perhaps the young starting rotation can carry this team next year and into 2017.
You could not have asked for a better way to end a doubleheader than for Matt Wisler to follow up Shelby Miller‘s wonderful last start with one of his own. Maybe Wisler is the number three starter in the Atlanta Braves rotation next year behind Julio Teheran and Miller. Wisler won his 8th game of the season and brought his ERA on the year below 5.00 to 4.71 in 2015.
The 2015 season is over for the Atlanta Braves and its on to the offseason for our favorite ball club. Expect for the Braves front office, now led by new GM John Coppolella, to make many calibrations to the roster before the start of the 2016 MLB Season. This team may have not had the talent to compete in 2015, but this club played hard even in times of great struggle so I can respect that. Here’s to a better 2016 for our Atlanta Braves!
