The Georgia Bulldogs are on a losing streak, as the Dawgs fall to the Vols for the first time since 2009, 38-31. UGA loses RB Nick Chubb to a knee injury in Week 6.
Well, maybe we’re not that good of a football team in 2015. Your Georgia Bulldogs are now in the midst of a two-game SEC slide, falling to UT for the first time in six years. Losing Nick Chubb on the very first play from scrimmage was as bad of an omen as you could imagine in this game.

Two SEC losses and it isn’t even Halloween yet. It’ll take a miracle for the Georgia Bulldogs to get into the 2015 SEC Championship Game. We can officially kiss our 2015 College Football Playoff hopes goodbye.

I’d have to say the atrocious tackling from the defense is what did the Dawgs in this afternoon. UGA couldn’t slow down Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs and RBs Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara in this one. It seemed like UT broke at least one tackle on every one of their 90+ offensive plays. If you tackle, you get off the field and don’t have to play nearly 100 snaps on defense.
The running game lost its bite without Nick Chubb. Too often for my liking did I see Sony Michel carry the football for less than three yards on dives and cutbacks. Would it have made sense for more physically imposing runners like RB Brendan Douglas or FB Quayvon Hicks to get a few carries to wear down the UT LB corps?
I wouldn’t blame QB Greyson Lambert too much in this one. Too often was he in obvious passing situations on third and long. Until UGA had to throw the football as time was winding down in the fourth quarter, Lambert couldn’t get into rhythm offensively.
The team didn’t have the necessary focus to beat Tennessee. What does that tell you? Two years in a row have the Georgia Bulldogs played an opponent that was only loss away from firing their coach and couldn’t deliver the knockout punch. Last year it was Florida. This year it was Tennessee.

Perhaps Mark Richt needs to take his team and his coaching staff down to Flowery Branch this week and learn how to tackle. That was the difference in this game. UGA could not wrap up on the initial strike at all. There’s too much talent on this defense to not know how to tackle properly.
How do you not rally together and “win one for the Gipper” when your best player goes down on the first possession? Nick Chubb looked like he felt guilty sitting on a table on the sidelines for getting hurt in this game. That’s insane. He didn’t let the team down, injuries happen. His team didn’t step up in his absence.
This 2015 Georgia Bulldogs team lacks the mental toughness to play in a meaningful bowl game this holiday season. I’m not upset. Did we halfway expect this to happen anyway? This is Georgia we’re talking about. Should we drop our Homecoming Game next week to Mizzou, are we seriously about to open up the can of worms that is with the Mark Richt Hot Seat debate? I hope it doesn’t come to that.
