Georgia Bulldogs Survive Southern in OT, 23-17
By John Buhler
The Georgia Bulldogs move to 8-3 on the year after beating Georgia Southern , 23-17 in overtime Saturday Between the Hedges on Senior Day.
It wasn’t pretty, but the Georgia Bulldogs manage to survive a rare non-conference scare at home to the Georgia Southern Eagles, 23-17 in overtime. The Dawgs and the Eagles had to play an extra overtime period to decide this contest.
While Southern missed out on a 4th and short opportunity in their first overtime possession, RB Sony Michel was able to run straight into the end zone to give the Dawgs a 23-17 victory on Georgia’s only overtime possession.

Georgia managed to hold Georgia Southern to only 277 yards of offense in their triple option attack, but it was two costly turnovers that kept Southern in the game. This was the type of win you’re not overly satisfied with the play on the field, but you’ll take the win nonetheless.

The Georgia Bulldogs have a great shot at a ten-win season in 2015. UGA would need to beat Georgia Tech in Atlanta and win their holiday season bowl game to get to that total. It would come as a great consolation prize for the program given the amount of turmoil that it has dealt with in 2015.
Greyson Lambert had one of his better games statistically on the year. He completed 16 of 25 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown. His completion to a diving WR Terry Godwin in the second half was a thing of beauty.
Sony Michel was the star of the night for the Dawgs on the ground. He had 23 carries for 132 yards and the winning touchdown in overtime. His overtime rushing touchdown was also his longest run of the day, going for 25 yards.
Malcolm Mitchell had a strong receiving day in his final UGA home game, reeling in 5 catches for 73 yards. In his redshirt senior season, he has been far and away the Georgia Bulldogs’ best and most consistent receiving threat. Hopefully he gets his opportunity to continue to make great plays on Sundays for somebody in the NFL.
Entering Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate at 8-3 (5-3) after the Georgia Southern win gives the Georgia Bulldogs some confidence about having to face the triple option yet again at Bobby Dodd Stadium next weekend versus the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Thanks to all the seniors on the Georgia Bulldogs football program who did their job of leading by example both on the gridiron and in the classroom. Best of luck to all these DGDs and whatever the future has in store for them. Go Dawgs!
