The Atlanta Hawks get their 12th win of the season by beating the Oklahoma City Thunder at Philips Arena Monday night, 106-102.

The Atlanta Hawks came out re-energized Monday night after being blown out by the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night to beat a strong Western Conference team in the Oklahoma City Thunder. Atlanta benefited from great play from PG Jeff Teague, PF Paul Millsap, and C Al Horford to beat OKC, 106-100.

When your basketball team is playing an opponent who was two superstars that average over 27 points per game, your big players have to shine the brightest. Atlanta’s four All-Stars found a way to outperform the dynamic duo of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Jeff Teague had the toughest task of having to go the distance with arguably the best point guard in the NBA in Russell Westbrook. Teague had 25 points and 5 assists in one of his bigger challenges as the team’s floor general. Westbrook still had a double-double with 34 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists in defeat.

More from Atlanta Hawks

Paul Millsap led the charge early for the Atlanta Hawks, scoring a team-high 26 points in his double-double Monday night. He also had 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocked shots. Millsap is having his best season to date as a professional. He’s playing at an All-NBA level for Atlanta and a third consecutive All-Star appearance is an almost certainty.

Al Horford had 21 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. I love the consistent scoring we’ve seen from Horford, but it hasn’t always been there on the glass. He really brought it tonight against the best rebounding team in the NBA.

Kyle Korver had a strong 11 points, despite going 3-9 from three-point range. He had a team-high +17 plus/minus in Monday night’s game. OKC’s Anthony Morrow was slightly better (+19), but Andre Roberson had no shot defensively against Atlanta. He had an appalling -26 plus/minus on the night.

With this win, the Atlanta Hawks move to 12-8 on the year and have played 20 of their 82 regular season games before the start of December. A .600 winning percentage is currently good enough for the 6-seed in the East. That mark would put the Hawks 4th in the West behind Golden State, San Antonio, and Oklahoma City.

What if the East is better than the West this year? Through the first two months, the East has been shockingly better. The Atlanta Hawks continue to play Western Conference foes well under HC Mike Budenholzer, stemming from all those years in San Antonio. Atlanta’s next game is on Wednesday night at 8:00 PM ET at home versus DeMarre Carroll and the Toronto Raptors. Great win tonight. Let’s Go Hawks!
