The Atlanta Hawks have lost three straight and five of their last six games, as they fall to the Miami Heat Sunday night at American Airlines Arena, 105-87.

The Atlanta Hawks are not playing good basketball at the present time. They have lost their last three games and five of their last six contests, falling most recently to their Southeast Division rival in the Miami Heat Sunday night, 105-87.

Atlanta has now lost control of their nearly season-long lead of the Southeast Division, as the Miami Heat have now passed the Hawks with their most recent win. The Hawks struggled shooting the basketball again Sunday night, connecting on only 38.6% of their shots from the field and only 22.7% of their looks from three.

It’s nearly impossible to win an NBA game when an offense is shooting 30% from the field in the first half and totaling only 34 points in the first two quarters. While Atlanta battles hard on the defensive end of the floor, the Hawks’ offense is in an absolute tailspin the last two plus weeks.

More from Atlanta Hawks

Even though the Atlanta Hawks only scored 85 points against the Miami Heat Sunday evening, five of its players had at least ten points of offense. Paul Millsap and Al Horford both had 17 points to co-lead the Hawks in scoring Sunday night. Millsap was 5-11 from the field, had five rebounds, two steals, and an assist despite dealing with foul trouble most of the night. Horford was 6-10 from the field, including a perfect 3-3 from three-point land. He also had four rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.

Jeff Teague did not shoot the basketball well at all from the field Sunday night, as he was 3-11 shooting in the Atlanta Hawks’ loss. However, he did most of his damage on offense at the free throw line by making all nine of his free throw attempts. Teague would also have six assists, two steals, and a block before fouling out with five minutes to play in the game.

Off the Atlanta bench, Dennis Schroder had 11 points on 4-12 shooting, three assists, and three rebounds. Tim Hardaway, Jr. had 10 points on 3-6 shooting, including a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line. The newest member of the Atlanta Hawks’ rotation also had a rebound and a steal against the Miami Heat in defeat.

The Atlanta Hawks look completely deflated in the final minutes of their blowout loss to the Miami Heat Sunday night. They lost the division lead to a rival and are now down 2-1 to Miami in the season series. Atlanta will have to gather itself quickly as they will play the Dallas Mavericks at home Monday night for an 8:00 PM ET. Here’s to hoping for a better offensive effort tomorrow night because this showing in Miami was an ugly one.
