The Atlanta Hawks are coming into the 2016 season with a lot of question marks. How will Dwight Howard play, will Dennis Schroder take the next step, and who is going to start at the shooting guard position? All of these questions are going to be answered sometime during the season.

When it comes to the shooting guard position, the Atlanta Hawks have different options. They have depth at the position and can rotate guys around. The Atlanta Hawks will have to make some serious decisions on who to play and when during the course of the season.

With Dennis Schroder set to be the starting point guard, he needs someone that can get open and knockdown shots. He also needs someone that can their own shot. I believe Tim Hardaway Jr. is the best option. Before all of the Kyle Korver fans start sending me disgruntled emails, let me show you my reasoning behind why Hardaway should start over Korver.

Shooting Guard Depth

When it comes to who the Atlanta Hawks can have at shooting guard, they could have Kent Bazemore, Hardaway, Korver or newly drafted DeAndre Bembry. With Bazemore most likely starting at the small forward, this narrows it down to pretty much Korver and Hardaway.

If you look at both players, each is a great shooter. Korver is one of the best shooters of all time, and Hardaway is no slouch himself. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but Hardaway gives the Atlanta Hawks the best chance to win.

Hardaway vs. Korver

Tim Hardaway Jr. has always been a great shooter. When he is given the opportunity and has an open look, he lights it up. He can also get to a spot on the floor and be a great spot-up shooter. Hardaway is also able to create for himself.

Korver had one of the best seasons of his career two years ago when the Hawks won 60 games. He has always been great at getting to a spot and making shots, but he has not been good at creating his own shot. Korver is also coming off a bad season and an injury. I think coming off the bench will help him and the Atlanta Hawks create more offense this season.

Heading Into The Season

At the start of the season, I would not be surprised to see the Atlanta Hawks have Korver to start because he is a known commodity. Korver also has been in Coach Bud’s system longer than Hardaway.

I believe that Korver coming off the bench would be better for the Atlanta Hawks. It would give Hardaway a chance to gel with the starters and it would give the Atlanta Hawks a more athletic lineup. This will be a battle that will be interesting to watch throughout the season.
