The Atlanta Braves have decided to stick with Bartolo Colon in their rotation for now. Keeping Colon in the rotation is a mistake that will hurt the team not only in the short term but it will hurt their future as well.

When asked if Bartolo Colon would remain in the Braves rotation the Atlanta Braves skipper answered that Colon is going to remain in the rotation. Keeping Colon in the rotation is hurting the Braves both because of his talent level at this point and the fact it is preventing a young arm from having a chance to prove themselves at the Major League level.

Sean Newcomb and Lucas Sim are two names that both are more deserving of a spot in the rotation than Colon who is unable to get outs. As much as was expected from Colon and as well respected as he is baseball is a game of what have you done for me lately and Colon has done very little.

He doesn’t eat innings or keep his team in games this season and the excuse of it is early is no longer legitimate as we head into the start of June. The Braves are a team teetering between contention and another rebuilding season. They need to be given every advantage especially with Freddie Freeman out for at least another two months.

Moving Colon to the bullpen or designating the veteran for assignment may not be the easiest move to make but it is the right one and needs to be done sooner rather than later. He could easily replace Matt Wisler as the long reliever and come back to the rotation if injury was to strike or the prospects were not ready as expected. No doubt whatever they may decide keeping Colon in the rotation is the wrong call to make.
