Atlanta Sports: June 10th a HUGE DAY for Atlanta Sports Scene!
By W. M. Lawson
Saturday June 10, 2017 will showcase three exciting newcomers to the Atlanta Sports scene. All three Atlanta teams involved have something significant to play for.
Most folks in the south don’t usually associate early to mid June as a time for must watch sports. Many, if asked, would give the Fall or Spring. But Saturday, 06/10/2017 offers Atlanta fans a smorgasbord of significant sports action. Atlanta sports gives you 4 games, 3 teams, and all of them significant.
The Atlanta Braves host the hated New York Mets today in beautiful, but micro-sized, Suntrust Park for a double-header. That’s right…they play two. Those games mean a great deal, and for different reasons. They are division games. Always important. But it is way more than that. Our beloved Braves need to start winning series. Not just games here or there. They really need to win home series. After Friday night’s great last inning win, two wins today would do that.
It’s also import because of the Starting Pitchers involved. The starting pitching for Atlanta has been atrocious, mostly. Sean Newcomb and Matt Wisler, if able to contribute positively, represent something that some fans struggle with: Hope. They represent hope. That can be a rare commodity.

Atlanta United FC is on the road today (4 PM EDT) and take on a ridiculously hot Chicago Fire squad that haven’t lost in seven consecutive games. The 5 Stripes, coming off a road loss in Vancouver, look to cure some road woes of late. ATL UTD, even without their best players at times, keep scoring, but continue to give up goals in transition. If ATL UTD can win today on the road, it would raise some eyebrows in the league, and some spirits with the fans.
Lastly, but most importantly, The Georgia Swarm are on that international road to Saskatchewan in Game 2 of the National Lacrosse League’s Champion’s Cup (9:30 PM EDT). They won the first game of a three game series 18-14 in Duluth last week. Simple math shows, if they win, they are Champion’s Cup Champions. And after all, bringing championships to the city and the state is what this is about, no?
Huge day in sports in Atlanta.
