Revisiting the Atlanta Falcons 2009 NFL Draft
The Falcons returned to offense, but did their pick make any impact?
The pick: Garrett Reynolds, Offensive Tackle, 156th overall
Their impact: Reynolds played five years in Atlanta, and appeared in 52 games.
He even made 23 starts, which is more than most teams expect from 5th rounders.
Who else was available that round?: Thomas Morstead was still on the board and is still crushing it with the Saints.
He’s most well-known for playing through injury in this past season’s NFC Divisional Round.
That completely understates his impact though, as he’s a former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion.
Chris Clemons went 165th overall but saw a decent amount of playing time with the Dolphins.
Besides those two guys though, the rest of the round was a bunch of non-impact players.
Would they switch the pick?: I’m actually torn on this one.
Although Reynolds only saw a handful of starts, we already have a safety from round two.
We also got our punter in the last round so we can cross out Morstead.
I feel like the team might be comfortable keeping Reynolds in this spot and having an extra lineman.
