Tariq Carpenter, Safety

After AJ Gray was declared ineligible for football due to a medical condition, Defensive Coordinator Nate Woody is going to be searching for a safety to play next to Jalen Johnson.

The emerging candidates are Tariq Carpenter, Christian Campbell, or Kaleb Oliver but I think Carpenter will emerge as the starter.

He took a lot of reps during spring practice thanks to Gray and Johnson being out but he did well in the spring game notching two tackles and an interception.

He’s more of a linebacker due to his run-stopping ability, but since he is only 188 pounds he plays safety instead.

His athleticism, length, vision, and run-stopping ability will help Carpenter be a force in the secondary next year.
