The Atlanta Braves are currently dealing with the fallout from learning that Jurickson Profar has been suspended for the entire 2026 season. It is the second straight year that Profar has made this choice, and it should end the outfielder's time with the Braves.

However, with every lost player, there's an opportunity created for someone to step up, and that is exactly what lies in front of Eli White.

It seemed the Braves were preparing to have Profar open the new season as the designated hitter. His suspension leaves an opening for White to potentially become a platoon option, especially since putting Sean Murphy and Drake Baldwin both in the lineup, alternating between catcher and DH, seems the most viable move if Atlanta doesn't make another meaningful addition.

This is still a huge chance for White, who is one injury away from being a starter, and appears to have a consistent path to playing time.

Jurickson Profar's Suspension Hands Braves Outfielder Eli White a Surprise Opportunity

Mike Yastrzemski, Michael Harris, and Ronald Acuna Jr. are expected to be the team's starting outfield, leaving one of Baldwin, Murphy, and White as the obvious answer at DH.

There will also be games off needed for the starting outfield, providing White a chance to step into the starting lineup with a shocking level of consistency. The outfielder is coming off a solid season, slashing .234/.270/.406 with 10 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases across 271 plate appearances.

White was brought back to Atlanta for 2026, but it was fair to question whether or not he would be able to make the final roster. The addition of Yastrzemski and the flexibility of Profar left room to wonder if the Braves might turn the page. Now, not only is White's roster spot safe barring another move, but the veteran is going to yet again head into Opening Day with a path for playing time and the ability to be an impact player.

For Atlanta, the question is simply whether the franchise will remain content with the team's current roster or seek an improvement. Much of this could be decided by how White fares in the next few weeks.

Regardless of the answer, there is no denying the opportunity that lies in front of White thanks to Profar's incredibly selfish decision. It would be a surprise if this isn't the end of the veteran's time with Atlanta after two seasons were marred by the decision to violate the league's substance policy.

Even if the Braves seek outside help, options are limited this close to Opening Day. That's why White must capitalize on his opportunity, as that could make or break what the rest of his season looks like in Atlanta.
