The Atlanta Falcons have been relatively quiet this offseason. Kirk Cousins' contract drama has handicapped this team and limited the amount of money they could spend this offseason.
They took the quiet approach in free agency while also letting multiple players stay on the market. Despite that, there's a chance that EDGE Matthew Judon isn't done with the Falcons yet. Last August, Atlanta acquired Judon from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick.
The Falcons badly needed some juice off the EDGE and believed Judon would have elevated this group. In 2024, he posted 41 total tackles, seven TFLs, and 5.5 sacks. According to PFF, he had a 43 overall grade (194th among 211 eligible defenders), a 53.9 pass-rush grade (161st among 211 eligible defenders), and a 53.6 run-defense grade (160th among 211 eligible defenders).
While his numbers aren't that exciting at first glance, the Falcons have one of the worst pass rushers in the league. Last season, they were 31st in the league in team sacks (31). There have been reports that the Falcons were named a potential landing spot for Marshall EDGE Mike Green at No. 15.
That would be a great selection, considering Green led the nation in sacks (17) last season and owns elite traits that could make him an intriguing pass rusher. Even if they don't take Green, Atlanta will be taking a pass rusher at some point in the draft.
Bringing back Judon would give this team a veteran mentor for whoever they select in the NFL Draft. He has also compiled double-digit sacks in two of his last four seasons. Having a nice collection of pass rushers is a must in today's NFL.
There could be a pathway for both sides to discuss a deal after the draft to bring back the four-time Pro Bowler to Atlanta.
