The 2025 NFL Draft is finally here. After months of rumors, speculation, and guesses, teams around the league will finally be able to add more talent to their rosters.
The Atlanta Falcons only have five draft picks, so they will need to ace their selections. Atlanta has two picks in the top 46 and will have an opportunity to add an impact player. PFF has LB as a position of need for the Falcons, and ESPN's Peter Schrager had them taking Jihaad Campbell in his mock draft.
Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but it indicates the Falcons could be looking to upgrade the LB position. And that could be bad news for LB Troy Andersen.
He was a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft with the 58th overall pick, but has failed to live up to expectations. As a rookie, he suited up in all 17 games, logging 69 total tackles and one forced fumble. Despite being active, he was a letdown.
According to PFF, he had a 40.2 overall grade (162nd among 182 eligible linebackers), 49 run defense (147th among 182 eligible linebackers), and 34 coverage grade (159th among 182 eligible linebackers).
Since then, he hasn't been able to stay healthy. After two games in the 2023 season, he was placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder/pectoral injury.
The 26-year-old was slammed with injuries once again last season. Anderson suffered a knee injury in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints, which forced him to miss the next five games. He returned in Week 9 before re-aggravating his knee again and being shut down for the season.
Anderson will be entering the final year of his rookie deal, but he hasn't shown enough for the team to want to keep him around. The fact that LB is listed as a need and Campbell being mocked to Atlanta shows the Falcons don't have much faith in Anderson and the depth at the position.
If the Falcons in fact draft an linebacker, Anderson's time in Atlanta could be coming to an end.
