Falcons should sign veteran receiver Keenan Allen as final offensive piece

The Atlanta Falcons have unquestionable playmaking talent with Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts heading the team's weapons for whoever eventuallywins the quarterback competition.However, there is no denying there is little proven depth at the receiver position, with Zachariah Branch, Jahan Dotson, and Olamide Zaccheaus competing for the second and third starting roles in Atlanta's offense. It makes a great deal of sense to consider bringing in another option; looking at current free agent fits, the market is incredibly limited.

Keenan Allen and Tyreek Hill headline the top pass catchers remaining on the market, with Hill having a clear injury concern not having a clear timeline of return after last season's leg injury. Leading us to Allen, there simply isn't a downside to signing the aging pass catcher if the receiver is willing to sign with a team that isn't expected to be a major contender.

While the Falcons might not be a top contender, there isn't a franchise that could offer Allen the clear snaps and ability to impact winning at the level of Atlanta. The veteran instantly becomes the team's second option at the position, with the hope being that Branch eventually evolves into this role, with London as the obvious primary weapon at the position.

Allen has proven each of the past two seasons capable of serving in a secondary role, finishing with more than 700 receiving yards in each of the past two seasons. The first of these years came with Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears in the quarterback's rookie season. The presence of DJ Moore and Rome Odunze didn't discourage Allen from still putting up impressive numbers.

The receiver followed this up by spending the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers and being a consistent presence for Justin Herbert. It is difficult to believe that just one year later, the Falcons couldn't find a level of consistent value in the signing.

There is no debating that the Falcons are one injury away from having a very real problem at receiver, with no proven depth and the team's starting options all coming with their fair share of question marks. Signing Allen gives Atlanta a level of stability and hands Allen a chance to be a contributor in a starting lineup.

If things fall apart for the Falcons, you have a potential trade deadline option to be moved as well as Allen unquestionably has the ability to boost an expected playoff offense. There simply isn't a downside to a move that should be made before the start of the 2026 season.
