Former Falcons Veteran Will Regret Leaving Atlanta This Offseason

Former Falcons WR Rondale Moore never played a single snap in Atlanta due to a season-ending injury. He will now try to find a role with the Minnesota Vikings.

Atlanta Falcons fans never got a chance to see veteran wide receiver Rondale Moore in action last season as he suffered a season-ending leg injury last summer. The Falcons acquired Moore in a trade from the Arizona Cardinals as they look to revamp their wide receiver unit.

Having Moore’s speed in the slot, with Drake London and Darnell Mooney playing on the outside, would have been fun to watch last season.

However, that dream never materialized as the veteran receiver was hurt and decided to go elsewhere in free agency. Last month, Moore signed a deal with the Minnesota Vikings. It’s not a bad signing for the Vikings, as head coach Kevin O’Connell could find a role on offense for the 24-year-old receiver.

But it’s unlikely Moore will get many snaps if he even makes the roster, as the Vikings’ top-three receivers are Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Jalen Nailor. Nailor had a tremendous year as Minnesota’s WR3 (28 receptions for 414 yards and six touchdowns).

That said, Moore could be Minnesota’s WR4, but guys like Brandon Powell/Trent Sherfield didn’t play often, as Minnesota has a solid TE room.

Therefore, Moore might’ve been better off re-signing with Atlanta this offseason based on their roster and offensive scheme. Even though the veteran wideout didn’t play last year, who's to say that a healthy Moore doesn’t become the WR3 over Ray-Ray McCloud?

Now that’s not to say McCloud didn’t play well last season as the Falcons’ WR3. The veteran wideout had his best year as a professional with 62 receptions (87 targets) for 686 yards and a touchdown.

The 24-year-old Moore could’ve easily had those stats in Zac Robinson’s scheme last year. He would also be an upgrade as a receiver over Khadarel Hodge, who has become a good special teams player, and even Jamal Agnew.

The Falcons signed Agnew to a one-year deal last month, and his skills are similar to Moore's. Both players can be utilized across the formation, and you want to get the ball in their hands in space. If Moore returns for the 2025 season healthy, there’s no need for Agnew.

That said, Falcons fans will watch to see if the veteran receiver can make the Vikings’ 53-man roster this summer after not getting a chance to see him in action in Atlanta.
