The Atlanta Dream are still amongst the top teams in the Eastern Conference, even though they went through a mini-slump. There is still some time for them to make ground before the second half of the season, and they also have a chance to improve their team before the deadline.
With Brionna Jones set to return soon, they may feel like they don't need to make any moves, as she's the one player whom they've missed this season. Having this level of confidence in the talent you're adding unquestionably bolsters confidence heading into the next phase of the season. At the same time, they can always find ways to get better, and the second unit could use another key piece to help them as the season continues.
There haven't been many rumors around the league of players who could be available before the trade deadline, but looking at some teams' situations, there's a chance something will happen. One of those teams in a position to make a move is clearly the Chicago Sky, as it looks like they and Skylar Diggins are not on the same page as of now.
Diggins was recently moved to the bench, and it was obvious she wasn't a fan of the decision. Not only did she immediately go on social media to announce the news, but she hasn't played in a game since, as she's dealing with a knee injury.
The writing could be on the wall for Diggins and her time with the Sky, and if it is, should the Dream look into trying to trade for her?
The Dream have proven that they don't need Skylar Diggins
Though the Dream could use some improvements on their team, trading for Diggins would probably cost a lot more than what they're willing to give up. Add to the fact that the Dream are pretty content at the guard position, and they may not even entertain the idea at this point.
Diggins would most likely want to start, but the Dream already has their starting five solidified. If she were willing to possibly come off the bench, it could work, but that might not be an option for her, especially with how she's playing this season.
There are other ways the Dream can improve their roster by making lower-cost moves, and it'll be interesting to see what paths they choose to explore as they attempt to turn the season back in the right direction.
