Throughout all themishaps and mistakes that happened in Week 1against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Atlanta Falcons still managed to win the game in the end. Unfortunately, it didn't go their way, but there could be some optimism floating around for some fans. For others, it might take a lot of convincing for them to believe that good things can happen soon for the team.
Outside of Bijan Robinson, thereweren't many good things to take awayfrom the offense. It was already known that Robinson would have to be a big part of the game plan if they wanted a chance to win, but nobody expected the pass catchers to be quiet, especially Drake London. The WR1 finished the game with two receptions for 29 yards, and it took him almost an entire quarter to get the ball thrown to him.
Drake London needs the ball in Week 2
Some of that could be put on Cooper Rush, but London has a knack for the ball. If it's thrown his way, regardless of who's in the vicinity, there's a good chance that he's going to catch the ball. That's why it was unorthodox for him to have only four targets in a game that was very winnable for the Falcons.
The good news is that it won't happen often, and it's even better to know that Week 2 is against the divisional rival Carolina Panthers. These two teams have been in close battles in recent years, and it seems to always come down to the final possession to decide a winner. For London, he's had his fair share of good games against the Panthers, and that's why Week 2 is set up for him to be the leading receiver.
Falcons have to change the game plan against the Panthers
After seeing the production from Week 1, head coach Kevin Stefanski can't allow his receivers to be a nonfactor again. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Falcons came out pass-heavy against the Panthers and London received the bulk of those targets.
London has proven over his career that he's ready for the big moments, and he shows up when his number is called. It's just Week 2, but it's better to come out early with a big game and avoid going down 0-2 than to wait until the middle of the season to find a groove on the field.
The Falcons paid London this summer for a reason, and it's because they believe he is one of the best receivers in the league. The only way he's going to be able to show that is if they throw him the ball, and Week 2 is the perfect time to start doing so.
