The Atlanta Hawks won again in the Las Vegas Summer League tournament on Thursday night, defeating Emmanuel Mudiay and the Denver Nuggets by a score of 82-73.

Lamar Patterson shined again for the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night with 17 points, while shooting 6 for 9 from the field in 30 minutes of playing time. Mike Muscala once again showcased his veteran experience, scoring 10 points on 4 for 9 shooting in 22 minutes played. Brandon Ashley also played well out of the starting lineup for Kenny Atkinson’s squad, leading the Atlanta Hawks Summer squad in scoring with 18 points in over 29 minutes played, going 7 for 13 from floor and shooting 2 for 2 from beyond the three-point line.

Former Nebraska standout Terran Petteway continued his good play in the Las Vegas Summer League, scoring 14 points but only shot 5 from 15 from the floor and 4 of 10 from long-range. Stephen Holt also had a great game with 17 points in 26 minutes of playing time, shooting 50 percent from the floor.

Glenn Robinson III did not continue his streak of good play against Denver, scoring only 4 points in 21 minutes played, with the Hawks being outscored by 7 points while he was on the floor. Thursday’s game did not help Robinson’s case to receive an invite to Atlanta Hawks training camp come October.

Walter Tavares received a DNP-CD and did not play in Thursday’s contest against the Nuggets, despite playing very well in the Hawks past three games. Tavares’s lack of play on Thursday is likely to give the young center a day off, as this was the Hawks’ third game in the past four days. Jon Horford, Tommy Bellas, and former Iowa State guard DeAndre Kane received DNP-CD’s as well.

Thursday was a great defensive effort from the Atlanta Hawks as they held the Denver Nuggets to only 15 first quarter points and their first round draft pick Mudiay to only 4 points on the night. The Hawks led for most of the game on Thursday, and their defense and lack of turnovers propelled them to the victory and a spot in the Las Vegas Summer League Finals.

Though the Atlanta Hawks went only 1-2 in round robin play before the tournament, the team has gelled under Coach Kenny Atkinson in the tournament, continuing to improve team defense and to diminish fouls allowed. Mike Muscala has shown veteran leadership throughout the tournament, and Lamar Paterson looks more like a viable option to claim to last roster spot on the Hawks when the season begins.

The Atlanta Hawks will play the Dallas Mavericks in the Las Vegas Summer League Semifinals on Saturday at 6PM.
