Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Blowout Tulane, 65-10

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were victorious in Week 2, beating the Tulane Green Wave at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday by a final score of 65-10.

The Ramblin’ Wreck’s offense picked up where they left off after their 69-6 victory over Alcorn State last week. Quarterback Justin Thomas attacked Tulane through the air and on the ground, passing for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns on 7 of 9 passing while rushing for 71 yards on 10 carries and 1 touchdown.

Graduate transfer Patrick Skov also had another great game in Week 2, rushing for 50 yards on 11 carries. Receivers Michael Summers and Qua Searcy both had touchdown receptions courtesy of Justin Thomas on 17 yard and 30 yard passes.

Matthew Jordan, one of Georgia Tech’s youngest backup quarterbacks, led the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in rushing on Saturday with 72 yards and scored a touchdown, while Marcus Allen and Qua Searcy each added a touchdown a piece. Georgia Tech #2 quarterback Tim Buyerly suffered a knee injury in practice this week, opening the door for Jordan to make an impact against Tulane.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets offense also accrued 429 yards on the ground and 132 yards through the air, completely demolishing the Green Wave defense. This is the second consecutive game in which the Georgia Tech offense score 60 plus points.

The defense for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets also played exceptionally well against their foe from the American Athletic Conference, limiting Tulane to only 248 total yards of offense on Saturday. So far this season, Tulane has been outscored 102-17 by two ACC opponents. The only touchdown of the day for Tulane came on a second quarter pass from Green Wave quarterback Tanner Lee to Wide Reciever Devon Breaux, their second connection of the season.

With their 439 yard showing on Saturday against Tulane, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets extended the country’s longest streak of 250 yard rushing games to 15 in a row.  Georgia Tech had another great showing on Saturday for the second game in a row, demonstrating that they are not only the class of the ACC, but once again one of the top offenses in the country.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head to South Bend, Indiana next Saturday for their first real test of the 2015 season against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The news came out today that Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire suffered a season ending ankle injury, putting a damper on the Jackets contest against the Irish next week. Regardless, it should still be an exciting and hard fought contest for both sides.
