Atlanta Falcons’ Wide Receiver Julio Jones was held out of practice most of this week due to a sore hamstring.

Falcons’ Head Coach Dan Quinn addressed the media on Friday, and stated the Julio Jones was able to practice on Friday, and will most likely play in Sunday’s game against the New York Football Giants at MetLife Stadium. This is great news for an Atlanta Falcons team coming off an emotional win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, and is looking to build some early season momentum.

Against the Philadelphia Eagles, Julio Jones won his matchup against Pro-Bowl cornerback Byron Maxwell. Jones had 141 yards and two touchdowns for the Falcons while being the most dominant player on the field on Monday.

Julio Jones was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week because of his performance against the Eagles. Following a 5 year contract extension, Jones is showing the Atlanta Falcons why he is worth every penny of his new lucrative deal with the team.

In other injury news, Head Coach Dan Quinn also has stated that WR Devin Hester, DE Malliciah Goodman and LB Brooks Reed have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Giants. Devin Hester has been dealing with a turf toe injury since August, and was unable to practice this week for the Falcons.

LB Brooks Reed, a key addition to the Atlanta Falcons defense this offseason, is currently recovering from groin surgery and will be out for a few more weeks. LB O’Brien Schofield played very well against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, and should be able to hold down the fort until Reed is able to return.

With Devin Hester out, Eric Weems has taken over kick/punt return duties for the Falcons. The veteran returner is not nearly as explosive as Hester on the open field, but is nonetheless solid at the position.

It’s encouraging to hear the Julio Jones will be able to play in a big early season road game for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday against the Giants. With Devin Hester out, and Roddy White not nearly as explosive as in season’s past, Matt Ryan and the Falcons’ offense will rely on Julio Jones and his ability to carve up the Giants secondary.

The Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants will kick off at 1:00 PM on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The game will be televised on Fox.
