Falcons Seventh Round Picks: G Jake Rodgers and San Jose St. S Akeem King
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Falcons draft Eastern Washington G Jake Rodgers and S Akeem King with their seventh round picks. Rodgers was the Atlanta Falcons 225 overall selection. He is a former tight end converted to offensive lineman. Rodgers brings good size to the Falcons at 6’6” 320 lbs. While he played all over the field in high school, what will determine if Rodgers has staying power in the National Football League is if he can uses his hands effectively. He has to learn to finish plays if he wants to remain in the league.

King looks to compete in the Falcons secondary that needs to improve after finishing dead last in pass defense in 2014. I would assume that Akeem can play fast, has good hands, and has good size as these are the type of players he prefers to have in his secondary.
Overall, I believe that this was a fantastic draft for the Atlanta Falcons. It seems like Coach Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff found value with every selection they had made. While neither of these seventh round selections really get me all that fired up, remember that Super Bowl MVP for the Seattle Seahawks Malcolm Brown was a former seventh round pick.
I’m excited to see just how Dan Quinn uses the seven players he and Thomas Dimitroff selected in this weekend’s NFl Draft. The sheer talent drafted in rounds one through five by the Falcons has me amped for training camp already. Anything Rodgers or King add from the seventh round should and will be considered a bonus for the Dirty Birds.
In my honest opinion, this could go down as one of the very best drafts in Atlanta Falcons history. All-Americans are now playing in Atlanta.
