After day one of the Atlanta Falcons rookie minicamp, Head Coach Dan Quinn, RB Tevin Coleman and CB Jalen Collins spoke with the media. Collins was held out of practice as he is recovering from offseason foot surgery expects to fully participate in training camp. Coleman was a full participant this afternoon and outside of UDFA DB Terrell Floyd who needed medical attention for dehydration, the rookie minicamp appears to have gone well for the Atlanta Falcons in day one.
“It’s an honor and a blessing to be in the NFL and with the Atlanta Falcons.” – Falcons CB Jalen Collins
Quinn likes pass rusher Vic Beasley’s quick first step and how DT Grady Jarrett finishes plays. He mentioned that second year player Dezmen Southward will receive reps at corner in this defensive scheme. At free safety, Quinn expects longtime Carolina Panther Charles Godfrey, Kemal Ishmael, and Ricardo Allen to compete for the starting spot in the Falcons secondary.
Coach Quinn said that Collins not participating in the minicamp is strictly precautionary. He also stated that on tape the game that Coleman had against Missouri really stood out to the first-year Falcons head coach.
Coleman noticed that the tempo of practice was fast from the very start. He knows that the speed of the game increases at the professional level as he is now playing with better athletes and competitors. Tevin isn’t afraid of contributing in pass protection as he feels that he did that well at Indiana. Coleman is eager to learn Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme.

Collins conducted himself well with the media despite being held out of practice Friday afternoon. He understands why the Falcons are keeping him out of the rookie minicamp on the side of precaution. The defensive back out of LSU emphasized how important each rep he takes once training camp starts. Collins does not prefer which corner position he plays in the Falcons secondary. He stated, “It’s an honor and a blessing to be in the NFL and with the Atlanta Falcons.”
