Report: Vic Beasley Signs With Atlanta Falcons
By John Buhler
No longer do Atlanta Falcons fans need to fret. According to D Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. First-round draft pick pass rusher Vic Beasley has officially agreed to a four-year deal worth over $14 Million. Beasley will also receive over an $8 Million signing bonus and a fifth year option, likely guaranteed as he was the eighth overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft.

It was starting to become a running joke for why it took so long to get Vic signed to play for the Falcons. But at last night’s State of the Franchise Address, Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff publicly assured all parties involved that Beasley’s contract would be signed here shortly. Not even 24 hours later, the Atlanta Falcons are now the most recent NFL franchise to have all of their draft picks signed. Believe or not, there are still close to 20 draftees yet unsigned across the other 31 teams.
Most speculate that the holdup over Vic Beasley’s deal was the guaranteed money for that fifth-year option. Being that Vic is coming to Atlanta as a franchise pass rusher, I can understand the intricacies involved in getting Beasley’s deal structure in a fair but team-friendly way. Much like how Matt Ryan’s extension during the summer of 2012 went.
I think now that with Vic Beasley being officially signed to a multi-year contract, Dimitroff can put all of his focus on keeping Pro Bowl WR Julio Jones in Atlanta for a long time. Just having Jones at the Address answering WSB’s Zach Klein’s questions on a panel with four of his teammates bodes well into locking up Julio for the long-term.
Yes, we all knew that Beasley was going to sign with the Atlanta Falcons eventually. Why would this lifelong Falcons fan from North Georgia not want to play for his favorite NFL team that also just so happened to draft him? I can sense the sighs of relief coming from Flowery Branch now that the uncertainty of Beasley’s contract negotiations are over. Vic can now focus solely on being the best outside pass rusher Dan Quinn has ever had to work with.
Congratulations on your rookie deal with the Atlanta Falcons, Vic Beasley! Now let’s get after some quarterbacks right away in 2015! Rise Up, ATL!
