Dan Quinn: This Is Not A Rebuild In Any Way
By John Buhler
It’s here. Atlanta Falcons Training Camp is officially underway! New Head Coach Dan Quinn met with the media after this morning’s initial training camp practice at the Flowery Branch headquarters.

Quinn believes that his Atlanta Falcons are off to a terrific start, but have a long way to go. He expressed that the energy at today’s practice got his coaching staff fired up as well. Though really these first couple of training camp sessions are just glorified minicamp or organized team activities, since the team did wear pads or shells today, the mind-set of all involved feels positively different.
“This is not a rebuild in any way.” – Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn
Dan Quinn said that his team practiced with focus as their was on one penalty and one turnover in the seven-on-seven drills. Mistakes happen early on in camp, but I sense that having only two mental lapses in the first day of camp bodes well for a strong summer for the Atlanta Falcons.

When asked about how the veteran players have stated that they are not treating the 2015 NFL Season as a rebuilding season, Dan Quinn responded, “I totally agree with that. This is not a rebuild in any way. Everything we’re doing is about right now and having the best camp we can have. We’re leaving all other expectations outside.”

I can’t help but feel amped up about hearing that from our head coach. Dan Quinn took the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D Orlando Ledbetter’s question and answered it with confidence. No way is this a rebuild. After two seasons of denial, this was a firm, clear-cut response that I can respect.
Dan Quinn still wants to use his hands-on approach to coaching “in the areas that I can help and support the players the best.” He does understand that he has to delegate some of the responsibilities to his staff. Coach Quinn has faith in the getting the ‘style’ of play across thanks to coaches like Kyle Shanahan, Raheem Morris, and others.
When asked about if the Atlanta Falcons still had interest in OT Jake Long, Dan Quinn smartly re-directed the question to saying that he and Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff have interest in anybody that can help bolster the offensive line, Jake Long included.

With rumors of Julio Jones getting a new deal here shortly, perhaps Thomas Dimitroff and Dan Quinn’s next focus is on bringing in one more sound offensive lineman into the mix at Flowery Branch. Jones expects to earn $15 Million a season, which would be more than fellow Top 5 wideouts in Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas got in their new deals. More on this as it arises in the coming weeks.
It’s great to have Atlanta Falcons football back in our lives and here’s to a great 2015 Season for our Dirty Birds! Rise Up, Atlanta! Go Falcons!
