Mike Scott: Admits Drugs Were His
By John Buhler
Atlanta Hawks PF Mike Scott‘s arrest for felony possession of both MDMA and marijuana occurred on the morning of Thursday, July 30th in Banks County, Georgia. A TMZ video ended up getting leaked to Bleacher Report when he was discussing his situation.
For those who are not aware of Mike Scott’s arrest, he and his younger brother Antonn Imhotep Scott were stopped by a Banks Co. police officer after Scott’s car was clocked going 98 MPH on I-85. His younger brother tried to flee from the police after he was caught hyper-speeding. Upon further inspection, Mike Scott was found to have been in possession with 10.9 grams of MDMA (Molly) and over an ounce of marijuana (32.5 grams, one ounce is 28 grams).

Bail was set at $8,100 for Mike Scott and Antonn Imhotep Scott’s bail was over $9,000 because he tried to flee the scene. The TMZ video surfaced about explaining what Mike Scott and his brother were being charged with.

Mike Scott took full responsibility of the drugs in the car, saying that Antonn was unaware of their presence in the Chevy Tahoe. Scott did not realize that possession of that amount of MDMA constitutes a felony charge. But he did seem to know that having over an ounce of weed wasn’t boding well for him.
The Atlanta Hawks have known about the situation from the very beginning but have still declined to comment on Mike Scott’s arrest. I think that the organization is trying to understand every possible detail on their power forward’s charges before publicly making a statement.
When asking if the public would find out about his drug arrest, Scott looked visibly ashamed to know that in a matter of hours that the world would hear about his troubles with the law. He seemed a little naïve about how all arrests are public record and that MDMA possession would constitute as a felony.
While I am not sure if Mike Scott is covering up for his younger brother or not one thing is certain, the leaked video by TMZ severely hurts Scott’s case when this does go to trial. I can see the offenses from this arrest dragging on in court for a while as the leaked video will make it difficult for Mike Scott to have a fair trial.

I’m not sure what the Atlanta Hawks organization plans to do in Mike Scott’s absence as I see this arrest completely derailing his 2015-16 season. Organization/court-ordered rehabilitation seems like a solution becomes down to the interpretation of the law in Scott’s day in court.
