Atlanta Falcons: Dan Quinn, Matt Ryan Preview Philadelphia

Atlanta Falcons HC Dan Quinn and QB Matt Ryan met with the media this morning to preview the team’s home opener versus the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Dan Quinn showed no fear of Chip Kelly’s up-tempo offense saying, “We play a fast style too defensively, we play no-huddle as well.  It’s a terrific matchup, one we’re accustomed to…can’t wait to play them Monday Night.”

The clash between two uptempo teams, the Philadelphia Eagles on offense and the Atlanta Falcons defense now under Dan Quinn, is the go-to point of analysis for this game.  Will Atlanta’s new-look defensive scheme keep pace with the Chip Kelly offense firing off a snap every 11 seconds?

  • As to who will replace the injured SAM linebacker Brooks Reed, Coach Quinn said that it would be split between Kroy Biermann and O’Brien Schofield.  Schofield is very familiar with Quinn’s system as they were both in Seattle last season.  Biermann will serve as a primary backup on the outside in this new Atlanta defensive scheme.

Quinn added that the Atlanta Falcons will likely play a lot in the Nickel Package, as Philadelphia tends to go with many 3-wide receiver sets in Chip Kelly’s offense.  He expects to have a strong pass rush both in the Base and Nickel Packages against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Quarterback Matt Ryan “can’t wait to get to kickoff” for the Atlanta Falcons home opener on Monday Night Football.  This will be the first Monday Night Opener for Matt Ryan since he came to the Atlanta Falcons as the 3rd overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft.  With it being the season opener, a night game, and Monday Night Football, Ryan expects the Georgia Dome to rock with excitement on the 14th.

Even with a great deal of turnover on the offensive line, Ryan feels confident in the unit and the new guys the organization has brought in.  Ryan likes having a veteran like Andy Levitre joining the team.  He says that Levitre is a “quick learner” and has performed at the highest level for a long time.

Ryan knows that Philadelphia’s strengths defensively are in its front seven with players like OLB Connor Barwin and MLB DeMeco Ryans.  Matt was quick to point out that the Eagles finished 2nd in the NFL in sacks last year.  Let’s hope that the Atlanta Falcons can somehow put it all together on Monday Night, so we don’t have to watch our Franchise Quarterback spend half of the evening lying on his back.

Philadelphia is a one-point favorite to knock of the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome.  If both teams want to get back into the NFC Playoffs, winning in Week 1 would be a great start for either club.  Only 4 days separate us from Monday Night Football.  Be sure to check your fantasy lineups as Pittsburgh and New England play tonight to open the 2015 NFL Season.  Rise Up, Atlanta!
