Atlanta Falcons Host Philadelphia Eagles on MNF
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Falcons will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football at 7:10 PM ET from the Georgia Dome. ESPN will be airing both Monday Night games. Game Two will be between the San Francisco 49ers and the Minnesota Vikings.
It’s finally here! The Atlanta Falcons will be playing a game that counts tonight from the Georgia Dome when the Philadelphia Eagles fly south to play the Dirty Birds in a Monday Night home opener. The Dan Quinn Era is officially underway in Atlanta.

Tonight’s matchup versus two NFC Playoff Contenders will be one filled with excitement throughout. Dan Quinn’s defensive scheme completely transformed a non-existent pass rush into one that could affect the outcome of ball games. Atlanta is looking to establish competency in the running game with new OC Kyle Shanahan’s highly anticipated zone blocking scheme. The Atlanta Falcons have an elite aerial attack and a Top 5 special teams group. The Dirty Birds are looking to start the year off strong here in Week 1 versus Philadelphia.

Chip Kelly’s Philadelphia Eagles made a bunch of head-scratching offseason moves that are now looking like great personnel decisions. Philly traded starting QB Nick Foles to the St. Louis Rams for their starting QB Sam Bradford. The often-injured former Heisman Trophy winner will have a familiar face on his new team in the backfield. Philadelphia somehow managed to pry All-Pro RB DeMarco Murray from their arch rival Dallas Cowboys in free agency. Nobody plays faster on offense than the Eagles and their front seven is as good as anybody’s in the NFL.

Coach Quinn stated that while Philly goes fast on offense, his Atlanta Falcons strive to play just as fast on the defensive side of the ball. Speed and solid tackling were the two areas Quinn emphasized the most in the Atlanta Falcons offseason. It will be interesting to see just how quick the Dirty Birds can play in their new defensive scheme.
Philadelphia is a 1-point favorite on the road at the Georgia Dome. That’s the slimmest of margins and I feel that this Week 1 affair will come down to the final possession, with the winner winning by one score. I trust K Matt Bryant‘s leg and QB Matt Ryan‘s precision in two-minute drills to stand as the difference in this game. This game will go down to the wire and I like Atlanta to come through in the clutch. I have a feeling that Matt Bryant drills a 45-yard field goal as time expires to give the Atlanta Falcons a Week 1 victory.
Final Score Prediction: Atlanta Falcons 20, Philadelphia Eagles 17.
