Special Teams Strong Enough to Win Team Ball Games

We know that the Atlanta Falcons have one of the best special teams units in football, but we can now say that the unit can, almost on its own, win the Atlanta Falcons football games. The Atlanta Falcons special teams dictated field position like a championship caliber team.

Philadelphia usually had poor field position to start drives thanks to P Matt Bosher’s booming punts.  Matt Bryant has become an automatic three-point machine for the Falcons, rarely missing on anything inside of 55 yards.

Keep in mind that the Atlanta Falcons did not have All-World Returner in Devin Hester in the home opener on Monday. Eric Weems did a solid job returning kicks in Hester’s place.  Even Kroy Biermann‘s kick blocking attempt deviated Eagles K Cody Parkey‘s late fourth quarter field goal, essentially saving the game for the Atlanta Falcons.

People tend to forget about how important special teams are to a team’s success.  I don’t see a weakness in STC Keith Armstrong’s unit and the Atlanta Falcons should continue to heavily impact the game in the crucial third phase of football.
