Atlanta Falcons Want Different Results Vs. Giants
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Falcons have not performed well in recent years when they’ve had to travel to the Meadowlands to face the New York Football Giants.
From old Giants Stadium to the newer MetLife Stadium, the Atlanta Falcons have not enjoyed much success on the gridiron playing against the New York Football Giants in the Tri-State Area. Atlanta let a lead slip late last season, losing 30-20 on October 4th.

The 2011 NFC Wild Card Game was an offensive disaster for the Falcons, nearly getting shut out by the eventual Super Bowl Champion New York Giants. Atlanta’s only points in that beatdown were a single safety. Bad Atlanta Falcons memories.

When the media asked the Atlanta Falcons’ two leaders of the wide receivers group about the New York Giants, Roddy White and Julio Jones had different answers. White has been in Atlanta since 2005 and has a greater appreciation for the Falcons’ enigma with the Meadowlands.
Roddy said the following when asked why the Atlanta Falcons seem to have so much trouble with the New York Giants at their place, “You know, I haven’t yet figured that out. Every time we go down there we don’t play well, so we got to break that streak…But this year it’s different. Different team, different attitude.” White also said he believes that the cornerback duo of Prince Amukamara and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are better than anybody they faced in Week 1 on the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jones plans to prepare for every football snap, whether that’s in practice or on Monday Night Football the same way. Julio “wants to win” and doesn’t mind having to run block the whole game if that means the Atlanta Falcons come out of the Meadowlands victorious on Sunday. Essentially, Jones worries about his performance and what he can do better, not his opponent.

Julio believes that much of the Atlanta Falcons success on Monday Night came because of the running game opening up the play action pass. Jones also praised Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan for his ability to have interchangeable parts on offense, saying “Kyle does a great job of that, making sure everybody knows the offense, so he can move us around.”
For Atlanta to look better on offense in Week 2, it will have to start with the running game. The Atlanta Falcons didn’t have that last year and look to have a more balanced offensive attack against the New York Football Giants.
With New York’s strength defensively in the secondary, look for Atlanta to pound the rock on Sunday afternoon to set up the short-to-medium passing game. With WRs like Julio Jones and Roddy White who can do a bit of everything, Atlanta can hopefully exploit mismatches on the offensive side of the ball in Week 2 versus the Giants.
