Georgia Bulldogs Plummet to 19th in AP Poll
By John Buhler
The Georgia Bulldogs devastating loss at home to the Alabama Crimson Tide 38-10 drops UGA from 8th to 19th in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.
This comes as no surprise as UGA came out flat against an Alabama Crimson Tide team fighting for their Playoff lives. If it wasn’t the blocked punt on Collin Barber that put this game out of reach for the Georgia Bulldogs, then it definitely was when QB Jacob Coker took it in himself.

Yes, Georgia is still alive in the Playoff landscape, but the Dawgs cannot drop a game from here on out. They won’t face a team like Alabama again this regular season, unless Florida proves me wrong again in the next few weeks.

The Top 5 are as follows: Ohio State, TCU, Baylor, Michigan State and Utah. Ole Miss falls out of the Top 5 with their road loss to Florida and Michigan State drops a few spots after barely surviving Purdue. Utah’s ascendance to the Top 5 has been miraculous. The Utes look legit in the Pac-12. Are they the favorites in that Power 5 Conference now?
6 through 10 are: Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. Clemson’s home victory over Notre Dame puts them in good graces with the Committee. LSU, A&M, and OU continue to roll. The Tide are the best one-loss team in the NCAA, sitting dangerously at 8.
11 through 15 are: Florida, Florida State, Northwestern, Ole Miss, and Notre Dame. Both Ole Miss and Notre Dame fall out of the Top 10 with their road losses. Florida jumped from 25 to 11 after handling the Rebels in the Swamp. FSU continues to not lose regular season games. Could be a real interesting game with rival Clemson. And Northwestern might actually be the team to beat out of the Big Ten West. Pat Fitzgerald has his Wildcats at 5-0.

Dawn of the Dawg
16 through 20 are: Stanford, USC, Michigan, Georgia, and UCLA. The Georgia Bulldogs and the UCLA Bruins nosedive after their Week 5 losses. Both teams were knocking on the door of the Playoff entering Week 5. Though the can still get there, the road is a little rockier now. It’s hard to get my head around the Michigan Wolverines being ranked a spot ahead of the Georgia Bulldogs. No knock on Michigan, but I didn’t think HC Jim Harbaugh would turn this program around this quickly.
To round out the AP Top 25, here are 21 through 25: Oklahoma State, Iowa, California, Toledo, and Boise State. Very interesting group here. Who would have thought that Iowa, Cal, and Toledo would all be Top 25 teams this year? More power to the Hawkeyes, the Golden Bears, and the Rockets. One of those three teams could be a legit team this year, similar to what we’re seeing out of Northwestern.
The Georgia Bulldogs need to win in Knoxville on Saturday for many reasons. Stopping the Vols would maybe move UGA up a spot or two, but expect the Dawgs to sit no higher than at 17 in Week 6’s Poll, assuming Georgia survives the Neyland turf. Fix your grass, UT!
