Devonta Freeman: Two or More Touchdowns vs. Washington?
By John Buhler
Devonta Freeman has seven touchdowns in four games with the Atlanta Falcons in 2015. Does he get in the end zone multiple times versus Washington on Sunday?
Devonta Freeman has come on the scene and taken full control of the fantasy football world this season. In the last two weeks, Devonta has rushed for 209 yards on 44 carries for 6 touchdowns. He has also has 10 receptions for 133 yards out of the backfield. Keep in mind he didn’t play at all in the fourth quarter of the Week 4 blowout against the Houston Texans and was the backup to rookie Tevin Coleman the first two weeks of 2015.

Can Devonta Freeman get in the end zone twice on the ground against the Washington Redskins on Sunday? The Washington Redskins have the number four defense in football, are number nine through the air and number two in stopping the run. With players like DE Ryan Kerrigan and DT Terrance Knighton, expect the Redskins to stack the box and try to control the line of scrimmage on the defensive side of the football.

Remember that the Dallas Cowboys had the number one rushing defense entering Week 3 before Devonta Freeman ran the ball 30 times for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns in Atlanta’s fourth quarter comeback over Dallas. Last week, Houston brought their vaunted front seven to Atlanta and couldn’t keep him out of the end zone, as Freeman rushed for 68 yards on 14 attempts for 3 touchdowns.
So it has not mattered who the opponent has been, Devonta Freeman has found a way to get in the end zone and put up points for the Atlanta Falcons in recent weeks. While I do like Freeman to continue to start in the Atlanta backfield, I’m not sure he gets into the end zone three more times on Sunday.
There are three reasons why I think he will rush for two or fewer touchdowns on Sunday: 1. People know who Devonta Freeman is now. 2. Tevin Coleman might play on Sunday. 3. Atlanta will want to stretch the field vertically to take advantage of the depleted Redskin’s secondary.

Though I still like Devonta Freeman to have over 125 all-purpose yards in this game, I don’t think Atlanta scores more than four touchdowns in this game. Even with his Pro Bowl caliber performances against the Cowboys and Texans, I can’t say I see Freeman accounting for three of the Atlanta Falcons’ four hypothetical touchdowns on offense.
I’d like to believe that QB Matt Ryan connects on a pair with his wideouts on Sunday. That leaves two, assuming Atlanta can generate four scores on the Washington Redskins in the Georgia Dome. My guess is that Freeman will have 125 all-purpose yards (80 rushing, 45 receiving) and 1 touchdown run. He’ll still get you points on your fantasy team, but won’t carry your team in Week 5. Rise Up!
