Atlanta Falcons Win on Alford’s Pick Six in OT, 25-19
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Falcons somehow, some way move to 5-0 after beating the Washington Redskins, 25-19 on an interception return for a touchdown by CB Robert Alford.
I can’t believe it. That was insane. How did the Atlanta Falcons come away with that victory? They have the makings of a very special football team. That was the 4th come from behind victory of 2015 for the Atlanta Falcons and it’s only Week 5. Is this a team of destiny?

It feels like it. Or at least I think it does, because I have no idea since I’m a millennial native of Atlanta, a region so deprived of playoff success. This was a defensive-minded game for the most part, as turnovers were rampant. Robert Alford had two interceptions in this game, including the deciding pick six on Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins in overtime.

Matt Ryan didn’t have a good game as a passer, completing 24 of 42 passes for 254 yards, 2 interceptions, and a fumble. I’ll give the Washington defense a ton of credit in this game, as they made it difficult to put up points on their depleted secondary. Their front seven is legit.
Devonta Freeman continues to out run everybody, rushing for 153 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. Freeman also had 7 receptions for 44 yards. When the team needed a spark on offense, the Atlanta Falcons looked to Devonta Freeman and he delivered.
The game ball goes to two players in this Week 5 victory for the Atlanta Falcons: RB Devonta Freeman and CB Robert Alford. To win in the postseason, your team will need a tailback that can carry the weight of the world on his shoulders and thrive should have he absolutely have to. Freeman is that type of running back for the Atlanta Falcons in his second professional season. He’s looking more like a Pro Bowler with every passing week.

Robert Alford made a smart play picking off Cousins on a Pierre Garcon deflection in the first half, then a dumb 41-yard pass interference play to give the Redskins the ball first and goal on the two late in the ball game. Defensive Backs Coach Marquand Manuel grabbed the distraught Alford and told him that the Atlanta Falcons were going to need him if they were to move to 5-0.
Fate would have it that Robert Alford would ultimately decide the game with his 59-yard pick six on Cousins in overtime. Cousins is an improved passer in 2015, but old habits die-hard in football. The Atlanta Falcons pass rush did just enough to disrupt Cousins’ timing for Alford to take it to the house.
I can’t believe the 2015 Atlanta Falcons are now 5-0 entering a short turnaround in Week 6. Atlanta will face arch nemesis New Orleans on Thursday Night Football in the Big Easy. The Saints are 1-4, but don’t let their record fool you. New Orleans would enjoy nothing more than ending Atlanta’s perfect season in their house. A win for the ages for your Atlanta Falcons! Rise Up!
