5. Rosters’ Inefficiencies are Easily Exploited

Seemingly with every loss we are seeing more of the draft day blunders of general manager Thomas Dimitroff. While he has hit on most of his first round picks, rounds two through four often have players that don’t end up being impact players for the Atlanta Falcons. That is a problem because that is what has to come from those mid-round picks: getting quality starters for your football team.

Though late round picks and former undrafted free agents have come in and made a bigger impact than expected on the Atlanta Falcons, there is only a certain level those players can get to in the NFL. It essentially caps how good this current incarnation of the Atlanta Falcons can become.

Teams aren’t built through free agency, nor strictly through the first round. It is more important than ever to hit on as many mid-round picks, hoping that occasionally one of them will become a Pro Bowl caliber performer.

It’s not that the team isn’t playing hard for each other and the coaching staff, but you can’t redline a team with so many inefficiencies and expect to get away with it. The better teams in the NFL will find ways to exploit the faults in the Atlanta Falcons in all three phases to gain the necessary edge to beat Atlanta.

It will take time, but the Atlanta Falcons’ front office has to stay ahead of the curve with personnel decisions both this offseason and the next few to put together a championship caliber football team. The teams with the better players usually come out on top.
