The Atlanta Falcons will have a golden opportunity to not start the season 0-2, as they're set to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 2. It won't be an easy matchup, but after seeingwhat they were able to do against the Pittsburgh Steelersin Week 1 and all of the mishaps that took place, they should bounce back in a big way at home.
Getting a win could bring life to a fanbase that is looking for optimism going into the rest of the season. It's hard to look on the bright side at the moment because of the quarterback situation, but Cooper Rushdid just enough to give thema winnable game. If he has to play in Week 2, the hope is that he's better than last week and does more things to lead the Falcons to a win.
Bijan Robinson showed that this team could have to rely on him to win them games this season, but the Falcons also have to realize they have other options on the team that can make a difference. The defense stood tall in Week 1, and that was probably the best sign for the team moving forward. All of these things can prove the Falcons have a chance of winning in Week 2, but if they lose, all could be bad early for the team and the fans.
The Falcons can't start the season 0-2
Starting 0-2 is not ideal for the Falcons, especially when looking at who they have on the schedule afterwards. They have the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers. Those will all be tough matchups for the Falcons, and there's a chance they lose all of them.
If that actually happens, the fanbase will have to make the decision to start looking at mock drafts for the rest of the season. Teams usually don't come out of 0-5 holes to start the season, and if they do, making the playoffs is slim. Of course, anything is possible in the NFC South, but not every team will start that bad in the division.
The good news is that the Falcons actually have their first-round pick for 2027, so if they get into a situation where things are looking too good for the season, it may be time to evaluate some of the top prospects.
In all honesty, it's way too early to be thinking about draft prospects, and the Falcons could very well be competitive this season. A lot will have to go their way, but they have the right foundation and players on the team to win games. The only hope is that they start winning now rather than later.
