The Atlanta Dream were one of the many quiet teams during the trade deadline, as it seemed like the league was mostly content with their rosters. For the Dream, it made sense, looking at what they were able to accomplish in the first half of the season. They were only going to get better as well with Brionna Jones returning to the court.
Outside of Jones, the Dream haven't had any serious injuries to their top players this season, and that's good news for a team that relies on their top players a lot. Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray specifically have been doing a lot on the wing, and it has looked like, at times this season, they're playing on tired legs.
That would've been a good cue for the Dream to look for adding a wing player to the roster, and it's uncertain if they even tried. There weren't that many players rumored to be on the trading block, but the Dream also had some assets that could've been used in a deal.
The Dream should've added a wing player to the roster
Betnijah Laney-Hamilton was one player who many thought would be traded after her minutes with the New York Liberty went down, and she would've been a good fit for the Dream to trade for. Laney-Hamilton is also very familiar with the Dream, playing for them during the 2020 season and winning Most Improved Player.
She could've been a player that came off the bench for either Howard or Gray when they needed a rest, and the Dream still would've had a reliable player on the court that they knew could get a bucket.
Any other available wing could've done the same thing for the Dream, but the way the trade deadline was quiet, it's hard to tell if anybody wanted to make a deal.
For the Dream, they'll have to keep relying on the wings they have, and players such as Aaliyah Nye, Sika Kone and Indya Nivar will have to step up when it's time for them to get minutes. As long as health is on their side, the Dream should be in good shape.
